It has been 16 years since the death star and the empire fell. The empire is no longer those that still believe in it are scattered around the galaxy and are easily being mopped up by the Jedi and the New republic. The Jedi order has been started once again at it's head is Luke Skywalker, who now has a son by the name of Daniel Skywalker, while Jedi are usually forbidden to love Luke happened to fall in love and have a child to the annoyance of many Jedi. Daniel now 13 has been prophesied the Jedi Maria Carn to be a strong force for the Jedi for what is to come.
